- Natural perfumer.
I co founded and created Perfumera Curandera with my Peruvian husband.Organic Handmade Healing perfumes made with with Amazonian and Andean Essences, exclusively distilled for us in the Peruvian Amazon.
We spent over 20 years studying and working with traditional healers and ethnobotanists in the Peruvian Amazon and Andes developing the raw materials from sacred medicinal plants. Perfumera Curandera launched in 2015.
I make each perfume in small batches,100 bottles at a time.
The perfumes are made in a sacred space, blessed and aged under the celestial cycles, filtered, bottled and labeled by me.
I am originally from London England. I have been a make up artist in the Fashion and Beauty industry for over 25 years. I have also simultaneously studied Health and Wellness throughout my career. A twice certified Yoga Teacher, a student of chi gong for over 12 years, with a background in Aromatherapy, Herbal Medicine and Nutrition for the past 30 years. My Peruvian husband and I have been traveling back and forth to the Amazon and the Andes for over 25 years to study traditional Plant Medicine in the shamanic traditions, still very much alive and part of the culture in South America.
In 1998 I launched Hirsh Skincare an all natural organic seaweed based seaweed line which was carried in 45 stores in the first 2 years.I have been creating perfumes for friends and myself since then.I had always wanted to have time to focus on and make perfumes and slowly being on the Plant Medicine path and working with the sacred plants and curanderos (traditional shamans of Peru) we started to develop some of the special oils that became the foundation for a line of 7 Healing Perfumes that launched in 2015 as Perfumera Curandera, which means "traditional healer with perfume”
This is a respected tradition and a part of Curanderismo (Healing) these Perfumeras and Perfumeros study from under a long lineage of Curanderos working with fragrant plants roots and barks and seeds and flowers to be used for healing potions. Special water is collected from clay pools deep in the Amazon where all the animals gather together in Peace to drink. This special water has properties of peace and harmony which is the base for the magical Pusangas (potions) which then have sacred plants, flowers and aromatic botanicals added to them and then blessed and prayed over. These potions are then applied to attract Luck Love and Abundance and to help clear and dispel any negative situations.
As I have learned more about these traditions and these local medicines this path has unfolded for me mostly as I come to know the plants in a deeper way.
I have the greatest respect for this medicine, for the healers and teachers who work so closely with Mother Earth and her plant kingdom to bring about healing.
From a very young age, I was always into alternative healing, my mum took me to yoga with her from the age of 13. I started Acupuncture and Shiatsu at around 19 yrs old and became macrobiotic when my sister recently back from her travels in Greece, having healed a leg injury with a macrobiotic diet, inspired us all to adopt it too. As a young woman I explored alternative medicine practioners and therapies which were very popular in London such as aromatherapy, acupuncture, shiatsu and chi kung.
I became a certified yoga teacher in 1991 while living in LA for 3 years. when I met my Peruvian husband to be, that took my life in a new direction on a path to the Peruvian Amazon and the Andes. Over these past 27 years, we began explorations into the lineage of healing with traditional plant medicine known as Curanderismo or Shamanism. This has been a very personal journey for us both and has led to a continual unfolding, and integration into daily life. The perfumes I create are an extension of this profound path.
I went to the Henrietta Barnett School for Girls in London. I did not go on to college but went to the London School of Fashion to study Make up and began working as soon as I could.
