My education and work experience are in mechanical engineering and industrial design, which I believe is a direct result of my mother encouraging me to bake as a youngster.
I continued bakings a hobbyist thru college, grad school and into adulthood and along the way became well-known among my friends and loved ones for always having a new baked good that I wanted them to try, always to rave reviews. In modern times, after much urging from friends, family and complete strangers at dinner parties and holiday gatherings, I've taken my favorite pastime and combined it with my professional design experience along with my wellness-oriented lifestyle to create THE INSTEAD COMPANY, the mission of which is "to use Design to facilitate engaging, compelling discussions about our relationship to food so that we may heal ourselves and the planet."
I developed the recipe for my "Be The Change" cookies and baked/packed them myself for two years as I ironed out the product and packaging format and now I've moved on to producing the cookies locally at a dedicated gluten-free, vegan facility in Inglewood. My intention in creating this product is to inspire people to consider eating more plant-based foods, which is why the name of the product references Gandhi's famous quote of encouragement and empowerment to people around the world.
