da.to.da atelier was founded by Matthew Fiely and Alexandria Vasquez. After meeting five years ago over a conversation on Noguchi, the pair began working slowly towards what is now da.to.da. Matt has an M.Arch from Harvard University Graduate School of Design and Alex is a PhD from Brandeis University. The two agree that homes and living should have as little intervention as possible, and should be as natural as possible. This is grounded in their theories of how humans heal and evolve in relation to their environment.
Matt has studied furniture design at The Royal Danish Academy in Copenhagen. In the field, Matt has worked for architecture firms such as SOM-Chicago, Perkins & Will-San Francisco as well as for Pritzker Laureate, Shigeru Ban, in Tokyo. Through his integration of modern architecture and furniture design, da.to.da atelier takes on interior projects that allow him to create sensual experiences that make us rethink the natural world surround.
Alex is a self-taught clothing designer who incorporates Eastern healing principles into the design and craftsmanship of her work. Each garment is intentionally made with environmental textiles that are hand-dyed with her collection of botanical extracts. People who wear Softwear feel her hug wrapping around their body. Alex believes clothing does not define us, but that it brings us closer to a deeper connection with ourselves and our surroundings.
da.to.da is a small design atelier for slower living.
In an age where disconnection from natural environments and mental distress seem to be on the rise,
da.to.da is motivated to make natural living available to the modern world.
Following the principles of our origins, we create environments to make harmony in our lives.
A vision to make environments take care of our basic needs is important to us, while also transforming peoples lives in an authentic way.
Our intention is to make day to day objects with honest and transformative value. Da.to.da does not believe in decoration, nor the austere approach to minimalism. We believe in Nature.
We, therefore, prefer organic and environmental materials that not only provide beauty and depth, but on a practical level health and endearing quality.
da.to.da is an atelier in the rural and vast beauty of The White Mountains. We have made a conscious decision to make homes and their objects with natural sensibility and slower, meaningful craftsmanship.
da.to.da recently completed a commission to create a California redwood Kodama for America's first organic vineyard, Grace Family Vineyards in St. Helena.
Our exhibition, "Home as Womb" at COPIA in Napa, California helped raise $120,000 for arts education scholarship.
Da.to.da recently created art installation popups in the summer of 2017 for New England markets.
da.to.da is interested in collaboration, and is especially looking to build their interior design portfolio. Please inquire firstname.lastname@example.org
